Rainy Friday/Lazy Saturday Morning

It's been a busy week this week with quite a few different things going on.  I've spent quite a lot of the week doing work for my small business which I'm pleased to say seems to be starting to pay off, which is great and I feel like I'm getting back on track.   In addition, we are currently visiting secondary schools for Little Bird, so Thursday night was taken with one such visit, which was interesting although it wasn't actually her preferred choice of school.

Friday here was  a bit of a washout.  It started in the morning when I took the dog out and a fine rain came down for the second half of the hour long walk and soaked  me.  My feet were wet through as I was only wearing canvas pumps and was walking in grass a lot of the time.  Silly woman.

I had intended to go to the allotment, but the recent wet weather rendered it unfeasible as the ground would just be too wet to walk on and transplant things, which was the main job that I needed to do.  Too dry last week, too wet this week.  Not having much luck in this regard.   Instead, I took myself out this afternoon, as I was going a bit stir crazy at home, to deliver this month's food bank donation and do a bit shopping which was a touch naughty.  I went to TK MAXX looking for a winter coat, but unfortunately, (fortunately for my budget) didn't find one I liked in my size.  I had a good look around the rest of the store, but nothing really appealed to me for once, which is actually highly unusual.  I was quite proud of myself.  To be honest I'd only gone out to take my mind off something that was troubling me.

I had to pay a visit to Little Bird's teacher after school.  She's not had a great week at school on account of one of her classmates.  I don't like to go running to the teacher about the slightest little thing, but sometimes on an important point of principal, I think they need to know what has gone on in their class, that might not be on their radar.  I was discrete and didn't mention any names as that was Little Bird's wish - she didn't want to upset anyone or get them into trouble.  Not that they cared about upsetting her sadly. Anyway, enough said.

The rest of the evening I spent trying to feed everyone and exercise the dog and myself (Zumba class on Friday evenings), before finally returning home in the rain to spend the remainder of the evening relaxing in front of the TV/laptop with a glass of Bucks Fizz (£1.99 from Lidl not the real thing).  Thank goodness for the weekend.

It was a filthy evening weather wise.  The drains here in London don't cope too well with a lot of rain and it usually results in large puddles in the gutters.  I'm grateful that I'm not forced to be a pedestrian or cyclist in this weather, as you tend to get splattered by passing cars if you're not careful.  Watching Monty on Gardener's World and Lucy Worsley's programme on Women in the 17th century on iPlayer managed to restore my equilibrium, thankfully.

This weekend, we have no plans save for our regular Sunday Mornings at the gym, so I made sure I had a lie in this morning and finished reading my book. It was an uplifting read.  Bliss.  I had quite a productive morning though as it happens.  I decided to get our winter clothes out of storage and put away the summer clothes.  I have a feeling that we might not get many more sunny and hot days  from now on.

I always enjoy getting the winter clothes out when autumn is upon us.   It's always wonderful to greet some old favourite clothes that I haven't seen for months.  I must admit that I am always more comfortable layering up in the autumn/winter than wearing vests and bare legs in the summer.  Soooo much easier.  Anyway, it took a couple of hours to sift through everything.  I did a wardrobe cull at the same time and went through all the clothes in the chest of drawers too, so I feel like I've had a good sort out.  I did the same in Little Bird's room too and she was equally excited at seeing some old favourites again.  As a consequence, I have a large bag of clothes heading for the charity shop and now just have to go through the coat rack and shoe basket and I'm all set for any inclement weather.

As a reward to myself , a rare treat of a lunch of fried egg, bacon and tomatoes with potato cakes and it was lovely.  Double Bliss.  Don't you just love a lazy/productive Saturday morning.

  1. I too have loved my canvas shoes this summer and will probably move over to my boots over the next few weeks. If the weather forecast can be relied upon we are in for one hell of a storm tomorrow - so a good day to continue with the DIY - stripping the paintwork! Oh joy of joys. My winter coat is my favourite. £20 from Oxfam - it's Per Una and my latest dye project. What's your business?

    3. Not at the moment, but it is something I'm intending to do at some point.

  2. I tend to go from flipflops to boots !

You sound rather low; it's always difficult having to approach a teacher about another child making yours unhappy. It can often be a bit of a shock as the nasty one might appear to be as good as gold... I know it happened to Jess ! Just be calm, honest and fair.

It's so hard to see your child upset but Little Bird has your support and that is what's important.

    1. Yes. She's okay really. It was all over something that went missing and was seen in the possession of someone else, so was a bit of a delicate situation really. Sometimes though, it just isn't worth getting too upset over, as it is just stuff, if you know what I mean, but at the same time it's something that can't be ignored.

    2. While battling for help for Jess & Joe at Primary school, I learned to keep polite & calm ( while I was fuming inside ) sometimes it was good to let things settle for a while then have another go but I always felt we had wasted so much time.

I like your bright background !

    3. Hi, thanks. I took that approach in this instance which I'm pleased I did as I don't like to go in all guns blazing especially as it was the first time I'd spoken to her teacher. Hopefully it will all get resolved, but if not a few lessons have been learned along the way so I guess it is all character building stuff.
