One Week One Pattern 2014 - Day One

Day one of this challenge, whereby I'm joining in with Jane from HandmadeJane in posting each day for a week, outfits styled around items made from one sewing pattern.  Today, I am posting an outfit styled around a spotted skirt, made with a vintage navy/white crepe fabric, that I picked up at a car boot sale for £1 quite a few years ago now.  I have worn this skirt many times since making it, although admittedly not very often this year, as the spots on the fabric are starting to wear off with wear and washing.  I still really like this skirt though and can't bring myself to part with it just yet, as it was one of the first I made using the pattern that is the subject of this challenge, namely Butterick B4461.

Anyway, here is a typical way that I would style this skirt on a warm spring/summer day.

(Please excuse the creases in the front of the tshirt - not a good start - it has been ironed and these were caused by it being folded and stored in a drawer.)

Navy slouchy t-shirt bought from TK Maxx, navy/white spotted snood (handmade using another vintage fabric found at the same car boot sale for £1), flat black leather gladiator sandals.  A casual look for walking the dog and out and about running errands.

You'll notice that I am not modelling these outfits personally.  I tried but found myself not to be particularly photogenic, so gave up.  I believe this is within the rules of the challenge.  You may just need to use a bit of imagination where tights or other leg/foot wear are concerned as it is difficult to model these things on a dressmaker's dummy with no legs!

I can see the day coming very soon when I will need to think about what I am going to do with this skirt.  It isn't really in good enough condition to donate to a charity shop.  I may have to repurpose this fabric into a quilt as a reminder of how much I have liked and enjoyed wearing it.
