A Bit of Mosaic Making

 

For a few years now, I've wanted to do some more mosaic making, after doing a short course with LB when she was little. As a consequence, I've been collecting chipped china and saving it for the day when I finally got around to doing it.

 

In the meantime, I've also been saving ideas on Pinterest of mosaic projects I could try and by combining a couple of different pins, I came up with the idea to make a bird bath using a cracked garden pot and matching saucer.

 

I began by creating the main design I wanted on the saucer, which was a bird and  then I filled in around it. I will eventually mosaic over the cracked pot below, so that the crack won't be visible.  In this way I've utilised a pot that would otherwise just be broken up and used in the bottom of another pot for drainage and should hopefully create something pretty to put in the garden and for the birds to visit.

 

Here's a picture of the basic design that I've already stuck to the saucer (not quite centered I'm afraid)and a picture of the pot and saucer how they will look once glued together, after mosaic has been applied, of course.

 

 

 

The bird was made using a mug I bought from Poundland, but which was cracked and leaked.  The print was pretty though, so I kept it as I like the blue and white.

 

I completed the background to the bird with an old Poole pottery plate I had that was cracked. I'm liking the effect so far, but it will look much better once grouted. This is as far as I managed to get during lockdown and it may be a while before I get to continue with this project, but I'll post again when it has been completed.
