We had a mixed weekend away this weekend. It was nice to see family and friends, but there were a few family disagreements that we kind of got drawn into, which wasn't so good. Nothing serious, but there was a little tension in the air at times. I guess family life is often like that, but living in London, we are more often than not out of range of everything that goes on within the extended family.
Although we were away for four days this visit, it went past very quickly. As well as visiting family and friends, I did also manage to visit a few old haunts (more in another post), which was quite nice and I did a little bit of shopping for inexpensive items, mainly toiletries and some new underwear.
I paid a visit to one of my favourite shops in Yorkshire, namely Boyes, which is a kind of budget department store chain that sells all manner of items. I bought myself some new underwear here at a very good price, some more of these favourite glass preserve jars for my kitchen cupboards, which cost just £1 each
and some dog treats, which we had run out of entirely and which are a favourite with our dog.
I also paid a visit to Home Bargains, where I found some items I use regularly at much lower prices than I normally pay and also some much less expensive brands of some toiletry items I use regularly, which I'm hoping will be equally as good as their branded alternatives. I stocked up on a few of each these items whilst there, to keep me going, as I'm not sure if we have this store anywhere near to where I live in London.
We both managed to fit a bit of exercise into the weekend, OH managed a 6 hour cycle ride to Filey with a local cycling club, whilst I attended a completely new to me exercise class called Sh-Bam. (I think). Kind of hiphop/dance/latin to pop music. I have to admit that it wasn't for me. I think I'll stick with the Zumba and Dance Aerobics. There was something a little ungainly about my 48 year old self trying to do some of the Hip Hop moves. I've put it down to the fact that I like to think I know my limitations. Others were much better at it and I'm sure I would get better at it with practice, but I did find myself hoping that it won't be coming to a gym near me anytime soon.
Finally, LB and I paid a quick visit to the local car boot sale on Sunday. I'd not been to one for ages, so we thought it might be fun. I came away with very little, save for some plants and one book, which was good news.
I bought a couple more Johnson's Blue Geraniums for 50p each for our garden at home (I have some of these in my allotment) and a tray of succulents for just £2, one or two of which I may put in one of my succulent pots outside and the others which I am going to pot up into small individual pots and house in various places inside the house.
It was nice to get away and catch up with everyone, but equally nice to get back home and get on with our everyday lives.
We don't have Boyes here, so I always nip in when we see one, I love it. My excitement always brings about eye rolling and tutting from Dan - all in jest.
ReplyDeleteYes, I get that too. I have to go shopping there by myself usually, as no-one else seems to like the store the way I do.
DeleteSounds like you had fun but it's always nice to get home.

It seems like drama always happens when a family gets together, sorry you got drawn in.
ReplyDeleteIt does sound like you had a nice get away though and some great bargains to boot.
God bless.
I think it helps that I seem to know better where to get bargains when I visit Yorkshire.
Deletehope the family niggles didn't escalate. x
ReplyDeleteNo, I sometimes think these things come to a head when others come to visit and they are exposed. Things get bottled up and it's sometimes hard to keep a lid on them. I think by the time we left it had all been aired and more or less resolved.
