The Garden Renovation Continues

With the shed now built and just the interior to complete, which is mainly down to me, this weekend, OH decided to start work on replacing the rest of the decking outside the back door. It was in a very sorry state. It's probably been down 10-15 years which is pretty standard for wooden decking, so it was time to rebuild it.

Before he could start, we had to move all of the plants from the decking for the duration.  This unearthed our resident toad, who is a real cutie, but I didn't manage to get a photo of him. Instead, here's a couple of pictures of the dire state of the decking:

The damage is mainly at the edges where we've had plants standing on the wood, hence why I want to use rollers, as mentioned in a previous post, to keep the plants off the new decking when it's down.

OH also took off the gate to the far end of the garden, as we no longer need it. It used to allow us some control over the movements of the dog at times when necessary, but, of course, she's no longer with us, so all it now does is cast shade on the narrow border behind, which I will now be able to plant up.

As OH ripped up the decking, I went around collecting it together and bagging it up, ready to take to the tip. An hour and a half later and it was all done and bagged up, save for a few remnants (we ran out of bags) and the joists, which OH needs to assess to see if we can re-use some of them.

Things always look worse before they get better, but a good morning's work and good progress made. I'll keep you posted.

  1. You are really moving along on the garden redo. In looking at ours, next year we need to redo the corner garden by the shed as it is very ratty and extremely hard to weed.

    God bless.
