Just a quick final post on this challenge to Donate 1000 Items from our home in 2015. The total for December was relatively small, compared with previous months, just 35 items set aside for the charity shop or the next Give and Take event. Added to the total at the end of November which was 1258, this makes for a pretty respectable yearly total of 1293. Better than I had hoped for when I started out on this project, which is great.
The pile for donation, has definitely noticeably grown again recently and with no Give and Take events over the last month or so, I really need one to be announced soon, in order to enable me to donate all of the things gathered over the last few months. It has now become one of my main ways of donating, but I do still take items to the charity shop from time to time.
As mentioned in my New Year Aims post, I am continuing with a similar challenge this year. I may give it a different name, such as - Living with Less Stuff in 2016 - and I will continue to post my progress every month.
In spite of everything that I donated in the past year, I am still surprised at how much more we have, than we actually need and use, so the 500 item total I am giving myself for 2016 should be pretty easily achievable.
I've already started work on this year's challenge this weekend, as there were a few items I had in mind, that I no longer wished to keep. My wardrobe is gradually being whittled down to a managable size, which is a blessed relief and is making life much easier on a daily basis. There's still a way to go with everything else though.
If anyone else is thinking of doing something similar and fancies joining me, let me know, as it is a great motivator hearing how others are doing on a month by month basis.
Right I'll join you - we have too much stuff we are in the process of sorting through the porch ready for the decoratoe coming in one weeks time.
ReplyDeleteGreat, I'm always happy to get others on board. I look forward to hearing about your progress.
DeleteHad my clear out in 2015, three boot fairs and EBay sorted. Now have to ensure nothing additional gets brought in.
ReplyDeleteWell done. I'm looking forward to getting to that point.
DeleteI'm trying to 'get rid' of one or two things each day and this will add up over the year. The trick is not to buy and bring more things into the house. I failed on the 2nd as I bought some tops in the sale at Primark! That's my splashing out for the year!!!

I know that feeling. I've been a bit tempted in the sales too, but mostly I've bought presents for other people and not too much for myself.
DeleteI am going to continue this challenge as well. I know we have lots more stuffed into corners of the house that can be donated or even sold to help the budget out.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Great news Jackie. It's very motivating when others do it too, as their efforts spur you on.
DeleteHappy new year.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on a one in-one out basis this year. I'm off to a good start as I bought a pair of shoes and put two skirts, a glittery top and a horrible t-shirt into the donation bag.
I hope to get to that point sometime soon. In the meantime, I am trying to be very careful what I purchase these days.
