M is for Madness and Mayhem

It's been a completely mad and frenetic week, with all sorts of things happening.  As a result I was very happy by the time Friday evening came around and we could breathe a sigh of relief and look forward to the Bank Holiday weekend ahead of us.

Little Bird (accompanied by ourselves) paid a visit to her new secondary school this week, to meet the Year 7 teaching staff and hear about the school and what to expect when she starts attending.  All very exciting.  Especially the fact that she will become the proprietor of a locker when she gets there and then there's the matter of buying pencil cases, school bags, etc.  A very exciting prospect for an 11 year old.  I guess it's one of the main ways you can express your individuality at that age.  It's sweet though, that such a simple thing can create such a ripple of excitement amongst her and her friends.  Ironically, she also had her final parent consultation at primary school this week too.  It was great to hear a lovely report from her wonderful young teacher, who has worked wonders with her this year, to our great relief, might I add, especially with SAT tests looming in the next fortnight.

I, meanwhile, have been trying to help oil the wheels and keep things running smoothly, whilst a variety of other things have also been happening.  We've had various deliveries including garden fencing panels that OH is hopefully going to put up at the weekend - weather allowing.  The landscape gardeners have been here, to do some work in the back garden;  removing a tree, re-turfing and building some fencing, so that we can better control the dog when she's out there.  It's looking pretty good.

I will make a separate post with photographs about the results of our garden makeover, when the fence panels are up and I have made some changes to some of the planting.  It's quite exciting, I am using the opportunity to take a long hard look and anything I no longer want in there is going, to make room for new plants and ideas to take hold.  It's a kind of 7 year gardening itch, as this is the length of time that has elapsed since I first started to build the garden from the wilderness that awaited us when we moved in.

The car was in the garage this week, on account of a manufacturer's recall and also due to needing a service, so we were without it for one day.  It did come back with the interior looking cleaner than it had done for a while though, which completely shamed us.

Finally, in the midst of all of this, the dog became very sickly, so my pet nursing skills were also required and there was lots of cleaning up of 'accidents'!!  As a consequence of all of the above, I've been confined to the house for much of the week, but it has had it's positives, as I have finally reacquainted myself with the ironing basket and have managed to empty it for the first time in over two months.  Sadly, the washing basket isn't yet empty, but I'm working on it.  I've also managed a bit more hand quilting work on my double eiderdown, which is coming along nicely.  Nearly one third complete now.

Towards the end of the week things quietened down a little, although my hopes to visit the allotment were dashed by the continuous rain ALL day on Thursday, rendering the ground unworkable.  Instead, on Friday I decided to  make a little excursion to a couple of charity shops nearby with a specific purpose in mind.  More in another post about that.

I hope your week has been a good one.  Here's to the Bank Holiday.
